In
this world, there is no symbol we revere the most that the Madonna. When we see
a woman with child, we want to protect and care. It is a basic instinct that
goes beyond the need to perpetuate the species. Somehow, we see the new life
inside a pregnant woman as the embodiment of new hope...anew beginning we could
all share in. Thus, her safety and that of her child must transcend all else.
However, this principle is not so easily maintained. A lot of the time, we have
to deal complications before, during and after pregnancy. Sometimes, it is the
mother herself who threatens both their lives. Come June, Medical Observer
talks about The Pregnant Woman.
