Italy in Films
The Embassy of Italy in Manila, Philippine-Italian Association and the CCP present the Italian Film Festival 2004 from April to December at the CCP Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino and the CCP Dream Theater. The Red Desert on September 7 at 4 and 7 PM is a postindustrialist masterpiece from director Michelangelo Antonioni, his first film in color and stars Monica Vitti as Giuliana, the disturbed wife of a factory owner, Ugo (Carlo Chionetti). This film is a testament to Antonioni's brilliance and insight into the ills of modern civilization. Fellow Countryman on October 12 at 4 and 7 PM is a drama directed by Roberto Rossellini and starring Maria Michi, Gar Moore, and Bill Edmonds. A masterpiece of neorealism using six stories that follow the Allied Invasion, from Sicily to Venice, from 1943 to 1944. A powerful film that compels one to stand up against violence.
