ON STAGE

The Woman in Black

    A child's terrifying scream, a vengeful mother, and a horrible accident in a misty swamp are just some of the elements in this mystery-thriller by Stephen Mallatrat (adapted from the novel by Susan Hill). Presented by Repertory Philippines, it runs from April 24 to May 18 at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium, RCBC Plaza, Makati City. Performances are Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 8 P.M., Saturdays and Sundays at 3:30 P.M. (+63-2-8991246)

Power Plays

    A tantalizing trilogy of one-act plays, Elaine May and Alan Arkin's Power Plays chronicles three separate stories about dominance, leverage, manipulation, identity, and absurdity. Directed by Baby Barredo and presented by the Repertory Philippines, it will be on stage on April 11 to 13 (Friday and Saturday 8 P.M., Sunday 3:30 P.M.) at the Insular Life Theater. MUSIC

Majestic Mahler

    The Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra in their grand 2002-2003 Concert Season finale, featuring Mahler's magnificent Symphony No. 3 in D minor. Featuring Agnes Barredo, alto soloist. Operang Tatlong Kusing

    2003 CCP Special Concerts Series II presents the modern classic Threepenny Opera by Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht in a Filipino version, sung concert style. Directed by Chris Millado. Slated for April 29, 7:30 P.M. at the CCP Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino.


VISUAL ART

Designing Bohol

    New designs based on Bohol traditional arts will be on view at the Metropolitan Museum of Manila until April. On display are new products like fashion items, houseware, furniture, and graphics. Meditations in White

    The works of Datu Arellano are showcased at the CCP Bulawagang F. Amorsolo until April 28.

Spirit: Life, Ritual, and Art

    Diwa: Buhay, Ritwal at Sining at CCP Museo ng Kalinangang Pilipino. This thematic exhibition featuring the artistic traditions of various ethnolinguistic groups of the country. On exhibition are textiles, weapons, personal ornaments, farming implements, ritual paraphernalia and more. Fourth floor. Making Music from Asia

    Also at Museo ng Kalinangang Pilipino is the CCP Collection of Asian Traditional Musical Instruments. Features the Indonesian gamelan, Indian sitar, Japanese koto, Philippine Kulintangan, Chinese gu zheng and yan qin, and Thai pi-phat ensemble. Korean collection newly opened.

From East to West

    The National Museum features the best of Filipino and Spanish culture. Paintings and sculptures from Spanish artist, Carmen Laffon, until April 30 at the 4th floor gallery. On display indefinitely are the Best of Philippine Art, San Diego I, II, III (The Wreck Site), Pinagmulan, Kaban ng Lahi (Archeological Treasures), and Kinahinatnan (The Filipinos Today). See also Spoliarium and other paintings by Filipino Masters, old and contemporary figurative art, Philippine colonial art, religious art, Philippine terrestrial exhibit, and the bones gallery. RJ at Captain's Bar
