Film Screenings with Sine Asya: The best of contemporary and classic Asian Cinema at the Cultural Center of the Philipines (CCP) focusing on films from China. Tanghalang M. Conde (CCP Dream Theater), July 4 PM and 7 PM.

 

Italy in Films

The Embassy of Italy in Manila, Philippine-Italian Association, and the CCP present the Italian Film Festival 2004 from April to December at the CCP Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino and the CCP Dream Theater.

"Ask Me if I'm Happy" on July 6 at 4 and 7 PM stars the popular Italian comic trio Aldo, Giovanni and Giacomo who also directed this film with Massimo Vernier. Funny and poetic, this film is about the power and value of true friendship.

"Terror at the Opera" on August 10, 4 and 7 PM is directed by Dario Argento and stars Cristina Marsillach and Ian Charleson. A young opera singer becomes the target of a psychopath in this ultra-stylish and fast-paced thriller.

"The Red Desert" on September 7 at 4 and 7 PM is a postindustrialist masterpiece from director Michelangelo Antonioni, his first film in color and stars Monica Vitti as Giuliana, the disturbed wife of a factory owner, Ugo (Carlo Chionetti). This film is a testament to Antonioni's brilliance and insight into the ills of modern civilization.

"Fellow Countryman" on October 12 at 4 and 7 PM is a drama directed by Roberto Rossellini and starring Maria Michi, Gar Moore and Bill Edmonds. A masterpiece of neo-realism using six stories that follow the Allied Invasion, from Sicily to Venice, from 1943 to 1944. A powerful film that compels one to stand up against violence.

Midsummer Nights in July

The Metropolitan Theatre Guild premieres with an audacious staging of William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Nights Dream, with selected translations by Ronan Capinding and National Artist Rolando S. Tinio, and put together by one of the most talented artistic teams assembles in Filipino theater. This new and exciting rendition of Shakespeare runs from July 16 to July 30 at the Carlos P. Kabuki Magic
