THE JAPS IN BAGUIO The UP Asian Center and the UP Jorge B. Vargas Museum & Filipiniana Research Center opens Haponés: The Early 20th Century Japanese Community of Baguio at the Edge Gallery on November 20. Based primarily on the recently published book, Japanese Pioneers in the Northern Philippine Highlands, the exhibition of approximately 60 photographs of Baguio's vibrant Japanese community illuminates a portion of Philippine, Japanese, and American colonial history that has come close to being forgotten. A symposium on the Japanese migrants to the Philippine since the 20th Century: History, issues and prospects between two countries organized by UP Asian Center Prof. Michiyo Yoneno-Reyes, will also be held from 9 A.M. to 4 P.M. before the exhibit's opening.
